Temptation defined Biblically is a situation in which one experiences a challenge to choose between fidelity and infidelity to one’s obligations toward God.
God does not tempt us, but the adversary does - mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
We need to conquer temptation first mentally, before we can conquer the others, or we will slip. This goes for any addiction – first you have to overcome mentally.
Likewise, the adversary first has to tempt you mentally – in order to conquer you physically.
Knowing that God lives will give you the strength to overcome temptation.
