Chris Boston of Devon and Somerset, fire and rescue services joins us to reflect on Project EDWARD's 2021 event and look at this years theme, Changing Minds, Changing Behaviour. We also discuss:

  • The goal of zero road deaths
  • Who's most at risk?
  • How the media can help

Devon and Somerset, fire and rescue services work every day with their communities and partners to prevent emergencies, to make people safer in their homes, their places of work and where they visit.

You can find Devon and Somerset, fire and rescue services here :Homepage | Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (dsfire.gov.uk)

The safe system minimises the chances for mistakes by drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and any other road users. But when prevention fails and collision occurs, effective intervention can make the difference between life and death. It’s the aftermath of a collision that we’ll be considering as we talk to:

  • Fire Aid (Claire Hoyland)
  • RoadPeace (Nick Simmons)
  • HCC Solicitors (Cheryl Pinner)

Fire Aid are a UK-registered charity who brings together our members to provide ethical and sustainable donations of fire and rescue equipment and training to over 50 countries worldwide. Visit the website here: FIRE AID & International Development - Official Charity Website (fire-aid.org)

RoadPeace is a national charity for road crash victims who provide information and support services to people bereaved or seriously injured in road crashes, and engage in evidence-based policy and campaigning work to fight for justice for victims and reduce road danger. You can find their website here: Home - RoadPeace

Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death) is an annual UK-wide road safety campaign backed by government, the emergency services, highways agencies, road safety organisations and British businesses.

The Campaign, Managed by Projects Zero, promotes an evidence-led, ‘safe system’ approach – the long-term objective of which is a road traffic system free from death and serious injury.

Our aim is to provide a platform that showcases some of the best work being done around the country to promote:

  • Safe Vehicles
  • Safe Road Use
  • Safe Speed
  • Safe Roads and Roadsides
  • Post Crash Care
