We end this special 6 part Melting Pot and Singapore International Film Festival series with Lavender Chang.

Lavender specialises in conceptual photography and her artwork is an expression of her awareness of the subtle nuances around her. Lavender's goal is to concentrate on these encounters, to paint a picture that will inspire more reflection, and to let the passing of time leave behind signs of her mortality.

Listen to know about her journey from being a visual artist to having her own feature film.

Lavender likes getting to know individuals and taking beautiful photos of them. Her cheerful demeanour usually puts the subject at ease, enabling them to express their most distinctive and best selves in her pictures. Chang originally gained recognition as an award-winning photographer, showing her work in countries including China, Malaysia, and Singapore. She was interested in concepts of time and mortality.

Chang, a driven artist, has never shied away from a conceptual challenge or stopped developing. She initially donned the cinematographer's cap in 2018, when she joined filmmaker Clang's first film, Their Remaining Journey.

Our host Payal is in conversation with Lavender as she talks about her very intriguing life and her most recent collaborative effort “Absent Smile” with John Clang being screened at the 33rd SGIFF.
