In this episode of the Happy Music Teacher podcast, we explore the keys to unlocking time management superpowers specifically tailored for elementary music educators.

I begin by emphasizing the importance of creating a comprehensive yearly curriculum plan. Planning your year and then doing some vertical planning where you use some of the same music, storybooks, and activities will save tons of time planning.

I also discuss how to use technology to save time and keep you organized. Additionally, I discuss how to make use of templates for lesson plans, worksheets, and presentations.

Another great way to save time is by borrowing ideas from colleagues and using online resources to both enriche your curriculum and keep it new and diverse.

We’ll explore the practical strategies of classroom setup and organization, where resources are readily accessible and student helpers play a vital role in maintaining order. Empowering students to assist with tasks such as instrument distribution and classroom arrangement not only fosters a sense of ownership but also frees you up to focus on delivering engaging music lessons.

Finally, I talk about the value of professional development opportunities, and how to save all the amazing ideas you get while you’re there.

Implementing these strategies and embracing the support of technology and student involvement, can help you unlock hours more time and create a more efficient and enriching learning experience for your students.

Here are the 5 Time-Saving Hacks we discuss:

  1. Create a Yearly Curriculum Plan
  2. Use technology
  3. Steal “er” borrow from other savvy music teachers
  4. Streamline your classroom set up
  5. Use student power
