Joe Swoboda is a retired US Army Sergeant First Class and former Bradley Fighting Vehicle Systems Maintainer (91M)/H8 vehicle recovery course instructor. Joe describes how the traumas of war from the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and combat missions onward had taken a toll on his physical and mental health, resulting in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post traumatic stress disorder. He details the methods and mindset he used and uses, such as the company of a K9 service dog and a moving-forward mentality, to continuously overcome his war-related challenges.

Joe currently sits on the board of directors for K9s For Warriors and is an advocate for the adoption of K9s to aid in healing from many of the traumas that military members commonly face.
