November is Diabetes Awareness Month and we wanted to share a special guest with you all to bring more awareness around Type 1 Diabetes and the need for screening – even if you don’t have family history of Type 1 Diabetes that you’re aware of.

Jana was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes mid-life, something that we would all assume is highly uncommon if not impossible. She shares her journey navigating advocating for herself in the medical system, how the diagnosis has changed her life and what mindset shifts she’s made, and still working through, in the process.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Symptoms Jana experienced that led her to seek medical care
  • The difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes
  • The life changes that come with navigating a new autoimmune disease
  • Experiencing grief due to a life change
  • Advocating for yourself when you *know* something is wrong but aren’t getting the care you need
  • How to get screened for type 1 diabetes
