Mary-Frances O'Connor, PhD is a neuroscientist from the University of Arizona and the author of The Grieving Brain. It is helpful to understand what is happening in the brain when we are grieving and to know that grief is a form of learning. Here are some points we cover in this episode:

  • bonds with our loved ones are deeply encoded in the brain
  • we need several coping strategies, matching the strategy to the circumstance is key
  • avoidance is a strategy
  • the brain derives information from new experiences, take small steps towards these
