Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 11th.

Today, we celebrate National Corn on the Cob Day. A whole day dedicated to the delicious, buttery, sometimes even messy joy of eating corn on the cob.

I love corn on the cob... I love it grilled, boiled, or roasted. Corn on the cob is a staple of summer barbecues and family gatherings.

It is one of those simple pleasures of life... but it does require butter and salt though... just wanted to add that because it makes it that much tastier!

Today's Quote comes from the Roman poet, Horace. It is a quote that speaks to making the most of each moment.

Horace once said,

"Carpe diem,"

which translates to "Seize the day."

The longer version of the quote says

"carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero"

which means "Seize the day and put very little trust in tomorrow"

You might be wondering, "Andrew, how does this relate to corn on the cob?" Well, let's think about it. Corn on the cob is one of those seasonal delights that you really have to savor when the time is right. It's not something you eat every day, but when you do, you fully enjoy the experience.

Horace's advice to "seize the day" is all about embracing the present moment, just like you would enjoy a perfectly cooked ear of corn on a sunny summer day. Life is full of opportunities and moments that we often overlook or take for granted. But when you seize the day, you appreciate the here and now, and make the most of what you have.

So today, as you enjoy your corn on the cob, let it remind you to embrace the present. Don't wait for the perfect moment; make the moment perfect.

Whether you're spending time with loved ones, working on a project, or simply enjoying a sunny afternoon, take a moment to appreciate it fully.

If you find yourself caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, take a cue from Horace. Carpe diem. Seize the day. Embrace the little joys, like the taste of fresh corn on the cob, and let them remind you of the beauty and richness of the present moment.

And don't wait too long... the corn on the cob might not be here tomorrow. Get it while you can...

That's it for today’s episode. Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. Remember, seize the day and enjoy the simple pleasures.

I’m Andrew McGivern, signing off for today and I’ll be here with you tomorrow with another daily quote.
