Did you know that today is World Population Day?
It's a day dedicated to raising awareness about global population issues. But instead of dwelling on the challenges, let's focus on a positive perspective.
In that spirit, I’ve chosen a thought-provoking quote from Julian Simon:
Julian Simon was an American economist and professor known for his optimistic views on population growth and resource availability. He argued that human ingenuity and technological advancements would overcome the challenges posed by increasing population.
In other words, population growth is a problem that solves itself because each new person comes with a built in super computer - the human brain that can work on the problems caused by human population growth.
Simon authored several influential works, including "The Ultimate Resource," which posited that human creativity is the most critical resource. His ideas often contrasted with the more pessimistic views of environmentalists and demographers, making him a prominent figure in economic and environmental debates.

And it turns out that in almost every country in the world we are experiencing negative population growth. The replacement rate is 2.1 children per woman and all developed nations fall significantly short.
China has had several decades of a one child policy and now because of urbanization and increased economic opportunities for women one child has become a cultural norm. Over the next 30 or 40 years China's population will almost cut in half just from aging out.
There are some regions that still have significant population growth, like many African countries for example. But these regions are also experiencing rapid economic growth and it turns out that urbanization and increased wealth reduces the fertility rate and slows and reduces human population growth.
The best way to deal with human population growth is to make everyone economically better off.
