Welcome to The Daily Quote - a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is June 8th.

Today is World Oceans Day, a day dedicated to celebrating our vast and mysterious oceans.

Established by the United Nations in 2008, this day aims to raise awareness about the critical role the oceans play in our lives and the importance of preserving and protecting them.

The oceans cover more than 70% of our planet's surface and are home to an incredible diversity of life. They also play a crucial role in regulating our climate and providing resources like food and oxygen.

The oceans are the place where all the world’s interesting sea creatures reside, and where many of us have, at one point or another, lost our sunglasses... contributing to the plastic problem - a topic for another time...

Our quote of the day comes from Ryunosuke Satoro, a Japanese writer known for his thought-provoking insights and reflective prose. Although not as widely known as some of his contemporaries, his work often explored themes of unity and the human experience, making his words resonate deeply with many.

And sort of on theme our quote from Ryunosuke Satoro is:

“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.”

Now, isn't that a beautiful thought? One drop on its own might seem insignificant, just a tiny speck in the grand scheme of things. But when you bring all those drops together, you get the magnificent, powerful ocean.

It's kind of like when you attempt to tackle a daunting task alone and feel overwhelmed. But bring in a few friends, some snacks, and maybe a playlist, and suddenly you're an unstoppable force of productivity—or at the very least, you're having fun while trying.

The same goes for our efforts to protect our oceans. Each little action we take, like picking up trash on the beach or reducing plastic use, might feel like just a drop. But when everyone pitches in, those drops create waves of change. Plus, it’s a great excuse to go to the beach—just tell people you’re saving the planet one seashell at a time.

So, as you go about your day today, remember the power of the collective. Whether you're working on a project, advocating for a cause, or just trying to survive your morning commute, know that you're part of something bigger.

And if you happen to find yourself near the ocean, take a moment to appreciate its beauty, its power, and perhaps skip a stone or two. Just don’t forget where you put your sunglasses this time.

Thank you for joining me on The Daily Quote. I'm Andrew McGivern, reminding you that together, we are an ocean. Have a fantastic day, and I'll see you tomorrow for more inspiration and a touch of humor.
