July 23, 2023 CAN I GET AWAY WITH IT? Gone Fishing Series Romans 6 Pastor Joshua Kennedy

None of us like to suffer the consequences of our bad choices. We cover up, shift blame, and make excuses to get away with it. If we are caught, we still try to find a way to resolve things to move on without the negative effects. Paul asks the Romans, "Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?" He also answers, "By no means! Grace is not a get-out of the consequences of a sin card. It is empowerment by Holy Spirit to overcome sin. As it says in verses three and four, we have been baptized into His death, raised from the dead, to live a new life. We have no excuses; we don't have to sin, but if we sin, we have an advocate; we confess our sins, and Jesus, as it says in 1 John 1:9-10, "He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin and cleanses us from unrighteousness." We don't fess up because we fear the effect it will have. The good news is Jesus doesn't condemn us. He forgives and also cleanses us. Therefore why would we let there be a wall between us and God? Grace is there not to cover our sins but again to release forgiveness and cleansing so we can be transformed. The benefits of holiness so outweigh the wages of sin.
