If you or someone you know considers themselves a perfectionist, it can often be confused as a strength, when in reality it’s a self-protective strategy to project our ideal selves 100% of the time. It’s just one example of our sophisticated fig leaves.

If we use this strategy to survive, shame and fear of being exposed are the motivators for almost everything we do. On top of this, we become extremely sensitive to the imperfections of others and have an extremely hard time accepting feedback or criticism.

Join me to learn how you may have learned from a young age to hide under the guise of perfectionism and why there is hope to live in humility and freedom in our new identity in Christ.

In this episode, you’ll learn

  • The difference between a healthy goal-setter and a perfectionist
  • Why perfectionism can be a learned behavior to protect ourselves
  • How perfectionism and procrastination are interconnected
  • How easy it easy for parents can unintentionally pressure young people into patterns of perfectionism
  • Why perfectionism is often inappropriately spiritualized
