While not every one of us in this community is a parent, we have certainly all been impacted by the presence - or absence of our parents. When parents allow shame to drive their patterns of relating, they becomes self-focused and out of touch with the needs of their children.

While it can feel uncomfortable to examine the negative traits of our own parents, doing so gives us the chance to forgive them and consider how to avoid relating to our children in the same ways. When we skip this step, it becomes so challenging to parent with confidence or peace.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • How all parents are mistake-makers and need compassion and forgiveness
  • Why shame can cause us to feel uncomfortable in an authority role
  • Why understanding how our parents responded to shame can enlighten us
  • How shame makes us incapable of making accurate self-reflections
  • The power of asking for forgiveness from our children regularly
