TOO MANY MEN IN CONSTRUCTION AREN’T PROACTIVE ENOUGH WHEN IT COMES TO SORTING THEMSELVES OUT. I love using the analogy of a rescue swimmer, dropping in the ocean when a yacht has capsized. It’s common knowledge that the strong swimmer will swim towards those that are swimming towards him. That’s because those people have the energy, effort, and intent to be rescued. If we apply that to men in construction who are currently struggling with coping mechanisms, it is simply not enough to say you have a problem and then do nothing about it. I know what that feels like having been an alcoholic for 20+ years in construction. To say I needed to be a better man, father and husband. To see the negative impact it was having on my life and the debilitating effect on my self-confidence. Saying that with no follow through action was soul destroying. I had to get proactive and swim towards being the better man I knew I could be. If you are currently struggling with a coping mechanism, you have to get proactive and swim towards the better version of yourself. Overtime this compounding affect can literally change who you are and the life course you’re currently on.
