John is honored to welcome MLB Legend Johnny Damon to the show to discuss his renowned baseball career, how analytics changed the game, his experience in the MLB during the steroid era, his thoughts on the current political environment, and his experiences on Below Deck.

For 18 seasons Johnny played for the Kansas City Royals (1995–2000), Oakland Athletics (2001), Boston Red Sox (2002–2005), New York Yankees (2006–2009), Detroit Tigers (2010), Tampa Bay Rays (2011), and Cleveland Indians (2012). A run scoring machine with great speed and awesome power, Johnny racked up 2,769 hits, 235 home runs, 1,139 RBIs, 1,668 runs scored, and 408 stolen bases.

John and Johnny discuss the evolution of baseball, how the Moneyball revolution impacted his career and how the lack of a salary cap pushed modern day earnings into the stratosphere. Johnny recalls the highlights of his career, his scary collision with Damian Jackson and his key role in the Red Sox historic World Series championship in 2004, ending their 86-year drought.

The conversation also touches on Johnny's move to New York and his accountability to his fans. He speaks candidly about his friendship with Donald Trump and his opinion on athletes speaking out about politics. John and Johnny share their experiences on Bravo’s reality TV show Below Deck and how the final edit can distort events that occurred during production. Johnny wraps the episode up by sharing his involvement as Chairman of the Board with A-GAME Beverages.

Topics include:

  • The Moneyball Method & The Evolution of Baseball
  • Steroid Use in the MLB
  • Leaving Boston to play for the rival New York Yankees
  • Winning the World Series with the Red Sox & Yankees
  • Experiences on Below Deck Reality TV Show (Bravo)
