This is a gem of a conversation with Lorraine Faehndrich, NBC-HWC, who specializes in working with women experiencing pelvic pain, many of whom are going through hormonal transitions. It is well known that women are more vulnerable to vestibular disorders and chronic pain than men, and current research and my experience suggest that this vulnerability is more pronounced during times of hormonal transitions like post-partum, pre-menstrual, perimenopausal and menopausal periods. In this interview, we discuss why we must look at this phenomenon through a biopsychosocial lens that takes into account the stress, emotional strain and responsibilities that women are facing during these times. You are NOT just a bag of estrogen, and treating symptoms should always take into account the whole person. We also spend some time delving into Lorraine’s approach with clients and the important of pleasure and enjoyment in recovery.
