Dads Interrupted began as a LinkedIn newsletter in the late summer / early fall of 2023, with the idea to spark deeper thinking and a confrontation with myself. I've been a dad for 12+ years, but the role of dad is one that I didn't and don't always get right. Yet, husband and father are my two most important roles. When my father passed away in December 2021, I began to question a lot of things. He struggled with depression and addiction and seclusion. The way I see it, he was a dad interrupted. I love my dad and by and large, he was a great father in the ways he knew how to be - provider, protector, and instructor. But there was a darkness that prevented him from fully embracing and confronting his own demons and obstacles. I felt like I needed to share my story, in the hopes it would inspire other dads and men to do the same, or at the very least, help them to question themselves and ignite someone, anyone, to think more deeply and engage more fully in their personal development and their own success at home. As men, we are told so many stories of how to perform our gender to "fit in" and be "man enough," when the truth is, we are already enough AND we should strive to get better everyday. The podcast's GOALS are to inspire people to live their truths, to reject, or at least question, the "rules" that we've been socialized, modeled and expected to follow, and to have impactful, vulnerable conversations that explore topics and confront challenges we face as men, dads, and workers. I hope these conversations inspire the listeners to ask better questions and demand better answers from themselves. It is my sincere hope that through this inquisition of fatherhood and masculinity, we learn something new together, we grow together, we connect through our discord and disagreements, and we leave these conversations with fresh perspectives and insights to improve the relationships that are most important to us.
