In The Workroom:

Kate is still working on her Rose City Roller sock.

Kate discusses going to Shelridge Yarns for a dying class. She discusses how she may have bought some extra yarn, but it’s merino, silk, and nylon with a bit of sparkle, so who could blame her. Kate has cast on Mira by Justyna Lorkowska with her freshly dyed yarn.

Kate discusses finishing her first knit along project (Let it Flow), and what she plans to do for the October knit along project. It’s looking like the Sunset Frost pattern with KnitPicks Shadow Lace held double.

Lindsey discusses how her socks are progressing. She’s got the heel done and is working on decreases. Found out if she’s loving knitting socks or not. She is also knitting the Rose City Roller.

Lindsey also discusses putting some knitting on hiatus for a couple of weeks in anticipation of an upcoming board game math trade. She discusses the types of items she sews to trade for board games.

Alterations:

Kate is trying to decide whether to rip back or finish a half finished project that she has kicking around. She loves the pattern and loves the yarn, but doesn’t love the combination. Find out what she decides to do with this project.

Lindsey discusses how her alteration this week is more of a mental one. She has to alter her perception of what it’s like to knit socks so that she can just get on with knitting a pair already. With some relentless encouragement and a bit of faith in a pattern she has been venturing into sock knitting. Find out how her alteration works out for her.

Skills Lab:

Kate and Lindsey do a bit of a Q&A about blocking. Kate covers all the basics for those of us who are new to blocking, or for those who just need a refresher. She also dispels some myths about blocking. Kate discusses:

  • What is blocking?
  • What isn’t it?
  • When should you do it?
  • How is it done?
    • Acrylic
    • Wool / Alpaca / Other Natural animal based fibers
  • Myths and facts

A Review or Two:

Lindsey reviews Nako Yarns, Boho Yarn, 13$ at Llama Laine. 75% wool and 25% polyamide. She is using the pink plum colour. This yarn got a bit of hate at first, find out how it faired after more knitting.

Crafting With Kids:

Lindsey discusses her second yarn-crafting adventure with Miss O. They make a rainbow haired headband with some leftover yarn. Lindsey discusses why this was more successful than the previous yarn adventure, and what Miss O loved best about it. She also discusses some improvements for when she does this again.

Event Spotlight:

We accidentally missed this segment this week. Sorry folks, all the info will be covered in next week’s episode (episode 10). Kate will be attending Woodstock Fleece Festival, if you are attending and would like to meet up with her, then she can be contacted at shecanmakepodcast@gmail.com.

From the Mail Bag:

Mac wants to know if the non-crafty person, not in the know, can buy crafty gadgets as gifts and just hope for the best?
