She Can Make – Episode 12 Show Notes

Today’s segments include:

• In the Workroom • Alterations • Skills Lab • A Review or Two • Crafting with Kids • Events Spotlight • And from the Mail Bag

Grab a cup of tea, make yourself comfortable and let’s start making. Thank you so much for joining us!

In The Workroom:

Kate is feeling a bit anxious and finds that doing some spinning helps. She is working on fiber from last year’s Woodstock Festival in anticipation of this year’s festival.

Kate is spinning a mohair/wool/alpaca top and is finding it quite challenging to get the consistency she wants. Find out how it turns out for her, and what she likes best about Wellington Fiber.

Kate is continuing to work on her super secret test knit.

Lindsey discusses the new shawl that she has started with Himalaya yarn. It’s the Lace Sampler Shawl by Shannon Dunbabin for Cascade Yarns.

Lindsey discusses finishing and blocking the feather and fan scarf… Finally!

Alterations:

Lindsey discusses the five starts that her current shawl went through. One of those complications being a broken needle and a guilt trip for her husband.

Kate is putting her current knit for the Island Knit Designs KAL on hold and is swapping over to something a little less time consuming, the beach peas hat. Find out why and what yarn she uses.

We would love to get some feedback on what makes a Knit Along great for each of you so that we can improve for future ones. We’d love it if you could go on to Ravelry and tell us the one thing you need or love in a Knit Along.

Skills Lab:

Lindsey discusses her first experiences with a Ball Winder. She discusses what worked and didn’t, as well as what surprises she encountered. She hopes this helps others venturing out for the first time.

Kate also shares some of her experiences with Ball Winding, and using a Swift.

A Review or Two:

Kate reviews the Twig & Tail Pathfinder Pattern (For Kids) from www.twigandtale.com. $12.50 CAD

Crafting With Kids:

Lindsey talks about making caramel apples the easy way with fresh picked apples and caramel candies. She used this Kraft Recipe, but used cream instead of water.

Event Spotlight:

Lindsey discusses her experience with the Tara Festival of Crafts in Tara, Ontario. It’s a huge craft show in a relatively small town. Find out about the goodies it had to offer, and whether you want to plan to go next year!

From the Mail Bag:

What’s the deal with the price of tools and gadgets? Are 5$ needles really worse than 15$ or 50$ needles?
