This is the one about what your Google Analytics are trying to tell you. Most bloggers focus solely on pageviews, but pageviews are just the tip of the iceberg, and in all honesty, don’t tell you much about your audience. We’re going to review some Google Analytics terms, and then dive into the dashboard to see all the cool stuff you can learn about your audience and what to do with that information.
WHAT YOUR GOOGLE ANALYTICS ARE TRYING TO TELL YOU
Basic terminology:
Bounce Rate: The percentage of website visitors who view one page then exit your site. Ideally, you want this number to be as low as possible, keeping visitors clicking around to multiple posts and pages.
Session: One visit to your site, regardless of the number of pages visited.
User: The individual person visiting your site.
Pageviews: The number of posts or pages viewed by individual users. If one user visits more than three posts in a session, this will give you three pageviews.
Reading the Dashboard:
Audience > Overview: tells you bounce rate, sessions, users, pageviews, etc. at a glance. Change the date range, or compare two date ranges for a broader view.
Audience > Demographics > Overview (must enable this tracking first): shows gender and age range of visitors
Audience > Interests > Overview: shows search history and categorizes your visitors based on interests
Audience > User Flow: see the path visitors take on your site
Acquisition > Overview: shows where your traffic is coming from, how much is from organic search, which social platforms, etc.
Behavior > Overview: shows the most popular pages on your site
