For many, the holidays and the accompanying family gatherings can trigger stress, anxiety, and trauma. Family members with "loose lips" may make damaging comments about people's bodies and how much/little folks are eating. Events may be in places or include people who conjure painful memories or emotions. And the holidays often spark reminders of loved ones lost and can highlight the loneliness others may be experiencing.
In this episode, Amethyst Roberson helps us explore the complex emotions the holidays can trigger and offers guidance to help us navigate family gatherings in a healthy way. Mrs. Roberson offers tips to help you:

  • Understand the prevalence and symptoms of seasonal affective disorder.
  • Emphasize the quality, not quality of self-care.
  • Learn the role of triggers and pain as it relates to healing.
  • Harness the courage to use your voice.
  • Prepare for conflict you may encounter at family gatherings.
  • Communicate your needs and concerns with family elders.
  • Cope with grief and loss during the holidays.
