Safe Unsound is a story about the human cost of war told from the perspective of three Ukrainian families containing three generations. In County Mayo, in Ireland, where they moved after the invasion of their country, they are far from the frontline, and very far from home. Victor and his wife Ludmilla imagined spending their retirement eating apples in their orchard, not learning English in an abandoned schoolhouse in Castlebar. Kate planned to learn to dance, not leave her law career and husband in Kyiv to work day and night to rebuild a life for her young children in the countryside. Maryna hoped to support her four kids and help them thrive, not keep the peace at home while her eldest daughter, Arina, works to make ends meet.
