130. Does Running Cause Weight Gain? All Things Cardio, Cortisol, & Choosing An Aligned Form of Exercise
Manage episode 396485258 series 3550560
This episode was inspired by an interesting conversation I had with a friend on one of our hikes.
She was sharing something she'd heard from a big health coach in the industry. What she'd heard was this:
Running and other types of high-intensity cardio raise your cortisol levels and create a stress response in the body. This can cause people, especially women in menopause, to gain weight.
She asked what my thoughts were. I said I agreed and disagreed. I'm going to elaborate on the thoughts I had surrounding this topic. In this episode, you'll learn:
- The science behind stress-related weight gain from running and other intense forms of cardio.
- How our thoughts about movement and exercise impact our body's physiological response to them.
- When running or other high-intensity cardio would be beneficial, and when it might be more harmful than helpful in terms of building health and longevity.
- How to choose the most aligned exercise for you.
- How to tune into your own body's wisdom to make the best movement-related decisions possible.
