Today, Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons have gone on a hunger strike, and a leader of the hunger strike has been placed in solitary confinement. Prisoner hunger strikes have also had a history in the U.S. What are the similarities between U.S. and Israeli prisons? How does the prisoner population reflect political struggles? Our guest is Hank Jones of the San Francisco 8. Jones has spent time in U.S. prisons and was also part of a delegation that travelled to Palestine. We continue our Know Your Rights series, focused on immigration. We discuss sanctuary cities with Emily Robinson of the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic, a project of Loyola Law School. In the lead-up to African Liberation Day, we continue our conversation with Emira Woods, expert on the African region to discuss the emerging movement Africa Rising, the history and significance of Goree Island, as well as the role of people of African descent in the diaspora in the growing movement for change in the continent of Africa.
