Her stories touch on the early days: one road, no cars, being a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital, fishermen lost at sea, frozen lakes, the perils of long distances between logging camps, hazards of fog when everyday you travelled by boat. A "marvellous regatta", a nurse lost for 24 hours, and -- an unforgettable character named Gladys -- and her husband, the Pig Man.
