On the quiet summer evening of July 3rd, 1929, the entire Evangelist household was brutally murdered in their home on St. Aubin Street, Detroit. The decapitated body of Benny Evangelist was found seated at his desk in the study, his hand clasped together as though in prayer, his severed head lying on the floor beside his chair. His wife, Santina, and their four children had been butchered while they slept. The horrific murders shocked the local community, however, not everyone was entirely surprised… You see, over the years Benny had built up quite a reputation for himself as a self-proclaimed ‘prophet’, ‘mystic’, ‘faith-healer’, and, arguably, a cult leader – something which probably garnered him just as many enemies as adoring fans.
