Bible Study

Don't just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon: Psalm 46, Mark 4:35-41.

In the face of uncertainties and fears, how do we make God our refuge and strength? Psalm 46 is a powerful source of comfort and confidence. In this ancient prayer, we learn about:

  1. A River of Gladness - God's presence is a source of refreshment, life, and joy
  2. A Certain Stability - All kingdoms, rulers, and institutions will end; only God's Kingdom endures forever
  3. A Divine Rebuke - The battle belongs to the Lord and he will be victorious

Discussion Questions:

  1. When you look at the world, are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future?
  2. Have you experienced the presence of God in a way that transformed an unsettling situation into a "river of gladness" (something that brought peace, life, and joy)? What difference did the knowledge of God's presence make?
  3. Based on Daniel 5, Randy suggested that "the days are numbered" for every leader, government, military, business, and economy. How do you respond to this idea?
  4. How does God's divine rebuke of his enemies (v. 10) become a source of comfort and strength for his people?
