What does it take to become a trailblazer in Canada’s venture capitalist industry? Michelle Scarborough, Managing Director of Strategic Investments and Women in Tech at BDC Capital is responsible for the allocation, orientation and execution of 200 million dollars of investment capital – the Women in Tech Fund is currently the world’s largest venture capital fund dedicated solely to investing in women led technology companies across sectors. “There’s a real tone at the top to continue helping entrepreneurs and supporting the entrepreneur along the pathway.” Michelle is widely recognized in her field, having started and led multiple ventures to become industry leaders. She leads the orientation and execution of strategic initiatives to fill current and future financing gaps in the Canadian ecosystem. Michelle is a director of the Canadian Venture Capital, Private Equity Association and is past chair of the National Angel Capital Organization. She is also the founder of the Women’s Angel Network in Canada. In this week’s #StartupPodcast, host Rivers Corbett talks to Michelle about the state of venture capital amongst women entrepreneurs in Canada and how she’s working to fund women-led companies.
