Speak to people like a regular human being. Learn to communicate properly and avoid using technical jargon.
Be ruthless in telling clients what they need. Its your job to solve clients problems, that means making them aware of the problems they don't know they have.
Small things make a massive difference (CNEs) - a 1% improvement today makes a massive difference over a 12, 24 or 36 month time frame. Here is BT discussing this topic in more detail with Dan and Ian from the LBP.
