In 1973, with martial law in effect in the country, 23-year old Communication Arts student and writer Liliosa Hilao died at the hands of the Philippine Constabulary. But as tragic as this was, she became a martyr, inspiring many other Filipinos to fight back against dictator Ferdinand Marcos' regime, eventually restoring democracy to the nation.
