Dadi Ma | The Portrait of a Lady | Khushwant Singh | Hindi Translation | Audio Stories
Manage episode 331261579 series 3247237
Khushwant Singh was an author, lawyer, diplomat, journalist and politician…but most importantly he was irreverent in all these avatars. His ready wit, magnanimity and his ability to have an “equal malice towards one and all”, were his unique qualities. I was lucky to meet and film him many years ago for Penguin Books India, for the launch of his book (which was also to be his last). I have many fond memories of chats with him at his home in Sujan Singh Park. When I met Khushwant Singh he was in his mid 90’s but his mind was sharp as an arrow. He was generous with food, libations, shers, philosophy and most of all his humour. The last time I met him, he kissed my hand and guffawed, “Now you can go tell everyone that I am a dirty old man.”
“It’s our little secret.” I said and he laughed for a long time.
Someday I will write about those visits. For now, listen to one of Khushwant Singh memorable stories- The Portrait of a Lady, translated into Hindi.
