Today's storyteller is Dr Gary Trubl! He's a microbiologist interested in the ecology of viruses, in particular in soil environments, and he's currently doing his post doc at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. We talk about his research in rainforest soils in Puerto Rico and also in permafrost, and I ask him whether viruses are considered to be alive or not, which is a very contentious issue! He's also working to get viruses included in the search for life in outer space. This is out of my wheelhouse so I ask a lot of probably ridiculous questions (which is totally in my wheelhouse) so enjoy!
