A Minecraft Server is a place where players of the game Minecraft can connect to play with each other. This creates a community of people who are interested in playing together.

The server owner has full control over the gameplay, up to and including being able to modify the game itself.

Minecraft Servers are hosted by providers on their own hardware or virtual servers. These can be rented on a monthly basis, where the provider takes care of all its maintenance, upgrades, and administration work.

There are thousands of Minecraft servers out there, but not all of them are good. Some may be abandoned by their admins, have terrible mods or plugins which ruin your gameplay, or even be dangerous to your computer in the long run.
