On December 12 1901, Guglielmo Marconi transmitted a message across the Atlantic Ocean to Signal Hill in St. John's, Newfoundland, nearly the closest point to Europe in North America. From that discovery, a new era in communication was born. Mind you, a lot of legwork was done to get that point.
