Today we are excited to bring you an interview with Dr. Eddie Hackler the III, a current Internal Medicine resident in Texas. Eddie is an Ohio native who grew up knowing he would be a doctor one day. Eddie went to Bowling Green for undergrad and then attended Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. While in Medical School, Eddie first served as Mr. Meharry, a role where he was seen as the face of Meharry and one that allowed him to give back and serve his community, and he then went on to serve as Student Body President, opening his eyes to the politics of medicine. Eddie has served as a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Scholar and has been a strong advocate for increasing representation of African American Males in the Healthcare Professions. In this interview, we dive deep discussing why he chose to do a Post-Bacc program, why he was originally called towards medicine, the value of doing away rotations during your fourth year of medical school, what it is like being a minority in Medicine, advice for anyone looking to apply to medical school, and what originally attracted him to Cardiology with a desire to treat the organ that is the number one killer in society today. As you will notice in the first few minutes, Eddie has a passion for medicine and connecting with everyone he meets!
