Turkey’s political landscape is shifting. President Erdoğan and his AKP party suffered their biggest defeat in more than two decades at the country’s recent municipal elections. Turkey’s western allies will be looking to see whether the changing tide at home may affect Ankara’s foreign policy.

Dr. Salim Çevik is a fellow at SWP at SWP’s Center of Applied Turkey Studies. He focuses on domestic Turkish politics, populism, nationalism, political Islam, state and religion and Turkey in the Middle East and Africa.

Dr. Berk Esen is Associate Professor of Political Science at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Sabancı University, Turkey. His areas of interest include Turkish politics, authoritarian regimes and party politics.
