Tales Vinyl Tells Podcast Episode 147: Juneteenth Special June 20, 2024 Here it is again. My annual salute to the celebration of the end of slavery on June 19, 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas that all previously enslaved people in Texas were free even though the emancipation proclamation had formally freed them almost 2-1/2 years earlier. This was a very significant event but was replaced by Jim Crow laws that still today hamstring the lives of many previous slaves’ families. My hopes are that when you hear The Negro National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing, you’ll feel something inside reminding you of the concept of freedom and justice for all. Financial support of Tales Vinyl Tells is greatly appreciated and it helps to offset the expenses that it takes to put this program together.
