Nick is fed up of hearing how cruel zoos are! Don't we need a bit of perspective? How else are kids who can't afford posh safari holidays going to see wild animals, unless we just want them glued to the TV? South Lakes Safari Zoo in Cumbria is being shut down over animal welfare concerns after a tiger killed a keeper, so are zoos just a relic from the past? Nick Margerrison, filling in for Jon Gaunt, spoke to Kirsty Henderson, Senior Campaign Coordinator at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Direct democracy, do we need it in the UK? Put simply, this is a form of government where every new law has to be put before a public vote before it can happen. A bit like the EU Referendum, except this time it actually happens! Nick spoke to a man who has started a new party committed to direct democracy. They're called Demos Direct Initiative Party, or DDIP, and their founder Marty Caine told Nick why he thinks he's right! Jon is away until Tuesday 21st of March. The Jon Gaunt Show is brought to you in association with Financial Resolver.
