An Iliad. A well-known work that’s a modern-day retelling of Homer’s classic written for the stage. Except…when there’s a pandemic and theaters are closed. What to do. In this episode of Talking Studio, Director Emily Penick https://www.emilypenick.com/ shares how she found a way to turn an epic stage drama into a film shot outdoors with actors and crew socially distanced and wearing masks when not in scene. Penick, who earned a master’s degree in directing from Ohio University’s School of Theater, is joined by Anastasiia Kulikalova, https://www.instagram.com/si.kulikalova/ the film’s director of Photography and current master’s degree candidate in the University’s School of Film. Together they unpack how the project came together in a very shortened amount of time, and what the work means to them.
