This episode of the Tangled Roots Podcast features guest Sarah Juanita, a Black vegan and social justice artivist who’s here with me to shed some spotlight on the Black vegan movement and how, in the clutches of white supremacy, there is empowerment to be found in analyzing what we consume, and why, as well as taking control of our diets. We delve into the racial history of some favourite African American cuisine, as well as the glaring correlations between slavery and factory farming. We explore how mainstream veganism has been whitewashed and why it’s so important for Black vegans to make themselves heard in discussions about food and health, as those often affect us the most.
