• June 5, 1893, the trial of Lizzie Borden for the murder of her father and step-mother began in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
• It was also this date in 1956 that Elvis Presley introduced his new single, “Hound Dog”, on The Milton Berle Show, scandalizing the audience with his suggestive hip movements.
• June 5, 1964, DSV Alvin was commissioned.
• It was also this date in 1991 that Space Shuttle Columbia was launched on STS-40, the fifth spacelab mission.
• Also today in 1995, The Bose-Einstein condensate was first created.
• It was on this date in 2002, that Space Shuttle Endeavour launched on STS-111, carrying the Expedition 5 crew to the International Space Station to replace the Expedition 4 crew. Astronaut Franklin Chang-Díaz became the second person to have flown on seven spaceflights.
