Merlin got into Computer Science because computers told him that he should study Computer Science. During his Bachelor and Master studies, he worked for many different companies in different fields using various programming languages. His drive towards optimization brought him to functional programming and eventually got him into working on a PhD thesis in Theoretical Computer Science.
