The Venezuelan government has announced that it is banning airplanes from Argentina from entering its airspace. The announcement also affects private aircraft registered in Argentina. The decision will be in effect until they receive compensation for what they consider the Argentine theft and subsequent destruction in the U.S. of their Boeing 747 belonging to EMTRASUR, the cargo subsidiary of their national airline, CONVIAZA. In Brazil, under the Lula government, 13 million Brazilians went hungry in 2023. Under the far-right Jair Bolsonaro, hunger in Brazil fell from 33 million in the first quarter of 2022 to 20 million in the fourth quarter of 2022.
In Ecuador, more than 83,000 Ecuadorians were unemployed between January and February 15, 2024, under the neoliberal government of Daniel Novoa, according to Ecuador's Ministry of Labor. Severe storms and heavy rains hit Uruguay, Argentina and Bolivia, causing deaths, flooding, power outages and massive evacuations. In Argentina, inflation reached 276% annualized in February, and in the first two months of 2024, prices rose 36%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census. Under the government of ultra-rightist Javier Millet, poverty affects 57% of the population. Extreme poverty has risen to 15% and there are almost 2 million children living in poverty. One in five children in Argentina is poor. And President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump secured the delegates needed to clinch their party's presidential nominations on Tuesday, cementing a general election rematch in November. Both won primary contests across the United States yesterday. Georgia, Washington and Mississippi.
