Después de la Primera Guerra Mundial Sérguei Diáguilev dio un nuevo impulso a su compañía. Entonces empezó a trabajar con artistas como Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Natalia Goncharova o Marie Laurencin. Léonide Massine (1896 – 1979) montó Parade de Erik Satie y El sombrero de tres picos de Manuel de Falla y Bronislava Nijinska (1891 – 1972), hermana del famoso bailarín, Las bodas de Igor Stravinsky. El último de los coreógrafos de los Ballets Rusos, George Balanchine (1904 – 1983), es el padre del ballet en EEUU.
