World No. 1 Novak Djokovic walked into the second round when his opponent, Conor Niland of Ireland, retired because of food poisoning with Djokovic leading 6-0, 5-1. David Ferrer, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Fernando were among the men’s winners of the day. American 22-year-old Donald Young made history as he became the first American to win a match on the National Tennis Center’s new Court 17.
