Penn & Pops are grooving', Episode 21 is a doozie and it's dedicated to Damar Hamlin. They almost didn't get to record (due to a Covid scare), but once they got set up and pressed record, it was back to biz as usual. There's a lot of sports news goin' on right now and the fellas covered it ALL. What'd they cover exactly? Let's talk about it.
During "Around The World," Penn and Pops discuss the horrendous CFB National Championship game. They agree Alabama and USC cost themselves a bid with two losses, leaving a spot for a team like TCU. Penn picked them to be a sleeper this season so he wasn't mad they were in comma but DAMN.. What a horrible game, right? They discussed Damar Hamlin and the impact it could (and should) have on the updated benefits of NFL players; both while they play and post career. They also discussed the CFB Hall Of Fame Inductees and agree.. REGGIE BUSH DESERVES HIS HEISMAN TROPHY BACK!!!
Naptown News is full of hilarious sarcasm as they broke down the Colts season and possible offseason decisions they'll have to make. With Chris Ballard staying as the General Manager (to a lot of fans displeasure), him and Mr. Jim Irsay will need to find a Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Franchise Quarterback and a Left Tackle to protect him. Unfortunately, they probably can't find a way to get Paris Johnson Jr. and CJ Stroud.
The boys discuss the Pacers' win streak and Vegas' projection of 22 wins for the season. They missed that one BIG TIME. They love Myles Turner's willingness to step up and be a leader, both on and off the floor. Him and Tyrese Haliburton have developed a great relationship and they're just gettin' started. Pops doesn't think the fact Myles has rejected an extension is a bad thing. As long as he's ballin' and we're winnin', the rest will take care of itself. Go 'Cars.
During The Fine Print, Penn & Pops drop a (low key) bomb on the Texans' organization and their continual hiring of African American Head Coaches only to fire them after a season.. or less. They're fed up as they agree it's a "lose lose" opportunity and again shows the lack of "opportunity" for people of color (and women) within the NFL "Good Ol Boys Club."
Episode 21 left Penn & Pops feelin' like they're finally gettin' the hang of the Sports & News Talk Show.. cuz they're NOT a Podcast!!! ๐
