Today on the podcast we have the absolute honor to have Michelle Roy on with us today…If your memory fails you, she is the former Michelle Wiitala from Naselle, one of the school’s most famous athletes.

Michelle graduated from Naselle in 1980. Some of her high school accomplishments were:

• A school-record 1,414 points which still stands to this day. She also scored 146 state tournament points in 7 games in 197-1980.

• All-state basketball player her junior & senior seasons.

• Do not know if this is still a record, but her family, Don (Dad), Dale (Brother), and she are the only family to be named all-state basketball.

• Her Comets played for the state B title in 1979, losing to Ritzville. In the semi-final game vs Bickleton, the Comets had to go 3 overtimes to win 52-51.

• In Michelle’s senior year she placed 2nd in the 400 meters.

• Her 100-meter time of 12.7 set in 1978 is still a school record.

In College:

• Played basketball at LCC and Gonzaga

• Her freshman year at LCC, placed 3rd in the NWAAC with a 25-5 record. She hit a running hook shot with no time left, to secure that 3rd place finish.

• In her senior season at GU were ranked 19th in the country, and playing their best basketball then had a career-ending injury.

• She was inducted into the LCC Hall of Fame in 2018.

• She received her bachelor’s degree from Gonzaga in Special Education, and her Master’s in Administration & Curriculum.

Roy has held various coaching, teaching & administrative jobs in Washington. She is going into her 18th year in education and is currently a Special Education teacher at Skyridge Middle School in the Camas School district.

Roy has been married to her husband Stuart for the past 32 years. They have two children, Blake, and Brooke. Blake graduated from the University of Redlands in Southern California this spring. Brooke will be a junior at Cal State Monterey Bay and runs cross country and track.
