OLIVIER DERIVIERE has been hailed by MTV as “Game music’s eclectic daredevil”, He has won an IFMCA and CUE AWARD for his work on the video game REMEMBER ME and is widely acclaimed for both his composition and innovative approaches to connecting music with the game experience. Among his more recent original scores include video games such as ASSASSIN’S CREED IV: FREEDOM CRY and SUPERNOVA. Derivière often blends traditional musical elements with unorthodox sound techniques in pursuit of creating an authentic score that fully immerses the player in the gameplay and story. Olivier Deriviere’s most recent project is the video game, GET EVEN - a psychological thriller by Polish video game developers The Farm 51. In the game, players take the role of Cole Black who awakens in an old abandoned asylum, his sole memory is the attempted rescue of a teenage girl with a bomb strapped to her chest, the rest of his memories wiped away. Players will explore an eerie and destitute world on a mission to discover the truth behind his traumatic memory. GET EVEN’s twisted tale will have players questioning their perceptions of reality and the true meaning of justice as they unravel the mystery of how Cole ended up in the asylum and the fate of that teenage girl. In this episode, composer OLIVIER DERIVIERE while sharing some of the story points of the game, delivers detailed insights from four tracks of his original score to GET EVEN. He discusses some of his key motifs and how the reflection of important emotional beats found in the narrative are expressed within his score. He also talks about some of the technology and techniques employed to blend sound effect into his music.
