We look back to the 70th anniversary of the conclusion of the Second World War on the episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site. Victory at the end of the war came at a monumental cost in lives and in destruction. 1945 was the pivotal year which saw the Allies' finals triumph over the tyranny of the Nazis in Europe and the Japanese in the Pacific. We look back at the first half of 1945 detailing notable events that led to the end of the war. We listen to radio broadcasts announcing Japan's acceptance of the Potsdam Declaration and hear an excerpt of the surrender broadcast from Tokyo Bay, in which General Douglas McArthur received the surrender of the Japanese high command. Additionally, we look at the aftermath of the war, when our veterans came home and enrolled in college classes via the GI Bill, and opened businesses and stores with the skills they learned during their time in the armed forces. They also married and began families, beginning the baby boomer years of mid-20th century America. We remember our veterans who served proudly and came home, and we also salute those who did not come home and gave their ultimate sacrifice for liberty far away from our shores. They are all heroes to whom we owe a tremendous debt of respect and gratitude. Join us on this commemorative look back at the end of World War II here on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network.
