The geo-politics of obesity with Dr. Rachel Taylor (Part Two)

The Black Spy Podcast, Season 10, Episode 0007

This week Carlton and Firgas assess the politics behind the global obesity pandemic with special guest Dr. Rachel Taylor.

The geo-politics of obesity is a complex issue that involves various issues such as economic, social, cultural and political factors. Obesity is a growing public health challenge worldwide with significant health and economic impacts. According to a study by the BMJ Global Health, the economic impacts of overweight and obesity are substantial across countries, irrespective of economic or geographical context and will increase over time if current trends continue.

The obesity problem is rife with political nuance: including the politics of who can speak about obesity; who holds authority; who has the best solution to address obesity; the politics of stigma; the politics of risk, class, gender, and race; the politics of morality, lifestyle and economic corruption of politicians (lobbying).

So, if you wish to understand why you can’t simply lose or maintain weight loss and gain a understanding of the politics and economics of the food you eat, then this is the programme for you.

This is another Black Spy Podcast episode that goes where other media outlets fear to tread.
